ABB Welcomes Minister of Labor, Swedish Ambassador, and Counselor at Embassy of Switzerland in Egypt

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, welcomed Mohamed Gibran, Minister of Labor, along with Håkan Emsgård, Ambassador of Sweden in Cairo, and Peter Hafner, Counselor at Embassy of Switzerland in Egypt, to its factories in the 10th of Ramadan City, to showcase the company’s efforts in occupational health and safety and the professional training programs implemented within the factories . The visit also saw notable participation from Deputy Governor of Sharqia, senior officials of the governorate, key representatives of workers, and business owners in Sharqia Governorate and the 10th of Ramadan investor association..

During the visit, the delegation toured the factories , exploring ABB’s ongoing initiatives to create an inclusive workplace that empowers people with disabilities and provides them opportunities to reach their full potential, aligned with the highest standards of safety and diversity. The visit also highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting and developing human resources across all sectors.

Minister Mohamed G ibran highlighted the prominence of this visit as it coincides with the celebration of the Egyptian and International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The minister praised ABB for its alignment with the Egyptian state’s policies and directives, emphasizing the company’s commitment to fostering social inclusion, localizing expertise, and boosting the productivity of the national industrial sector. He lauded ABB’s adoption of an equal opportunities policy, which empowers effective participation.

Expressing his gratitude for the esteemed presence of the distinguished guests at the ABB event Ahmed Hammad, Chairman of – ABB Egypt , stated: “We were honored to welcome such esteemed figures to ABB’s factories in the 10th of Ramadan. Through our efforts, we have successfully obtained the Egyptian Local Component Certificate, achieving a local content ratio of 70% in electrical distribution products manufactured at our facilities . This accomplishment reflects the dedication of all our employees to supporting development and innovation while enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian-made products.”

Highlighting ABB’s commitment to promoting inclusive practices Sherif Ismail, Vice President- Commercial Director for ABB Egypt & Central Africa, commented: “Our collaboration with the Ministry of Labor reflects our long-term commitment to achieving social sustainability. Ismail also highlighted ABB’s ambitious plan to explore new markets and expand exports to various countries worldwide, emphasizing the positive impact of exports on Egypt’s economic growth and national income. He added that this step aligns with the country’s focus on energy projects and supports Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional energy hub.

“The significant advancements at our 10th of Ramadan factories , the largest in the Middle East, for supplying electrical distribution and transmission network components, have enabled us to expand our workforce and prioritize hiring top talent,” commented Mohamed Salem ABB Egypt’s Factories Manager. “We are also committed to delivering a comprehensive training and occupational safety program that benefits both our employees and the community. Through initiatives like our annual Health, Safety, and Environment Week, we integrate practical and community-focused activities to promote a culture of safety and well-being across all levels of the organization.” He added.

Emphasizing that diversity and inclusion are integral to ABB’s strategy, Ashraf Farouk, ABB Egypt’s Country HR Manager, stated : “Over the past years, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor, we have hired employees with disabilities in various roles across the company. This initiative aims to improve productivity and foster a creative and fair work environment that embraces differences and encourages innovation.”

The Swedish Ambassador to Egypt expressed his delight at the strong presence of Swedish companies in Egypt, with a particular emphasis on ABB, a pioneer in advanced technological solutions and sustainable energy that has been investing in the country for nearly a century. He highlighted the significance of ABB’s factories in 10th of Ramadan City as a pivotal manufacturing and export hub for electrical solutions. The ambassador commended ABB’s role in bolstering Egypt’s status as a prime destination for major industrial investments, further solidifying its position as a regional hub for innovation and economic growth.

Peter Hafner, Counselor at the Embassy of Switzerland in Egypt, lauded ABB’s factory as a landmark in industrial excellence. He commended ABB’s forward-thinking initiatives and innovative solutions in the electricity sector, tackling critical challenges such as energy load management, power outages, electricity supply quality, and energy efficiency. Hafner also highlighted ABB’s significant contributions to the development of smart city infrastructure, designed to reduce energy consumption and drive digital transformation. He noted the promise of Egypt’s energy market, which is bolstered by ambitious development plans, and praised the Egyptian government’s dedicated efforts to modernize the electricity and energy systems.

The event concluded with the Minister of Labor presenting certificates of appreciation to the company’s workers. ABB leaders commended their dedication and hard work , emphasiz ing the importance of fostering a culture of inclusivity and creating a more equitable workplace, with a focus on leveraging all talents and promoting professional fairness. This reflects ABB’s vision of building a brighter and more equitable future for all.
